Music and Family
The person that I chose to interview was my mother. She was born in the late 1960’s and grew up in the time where music was up roaring. Her dad worked long hours on the railroads and her mom was a seamstress that worked from home with her and her sister. My mom grew up with a sister that she was not that close with in age. She has grown up going to all sorts of different concerts and listening to many different genres of music. She said that her earliest memory of music was the songs her dad used to listen to on the radio, typically old school country. She also mentioned that the tv was rarely on, but if it was it would typically be showing old time country shows that had instruments like the banjo. When I asked her about who and what music she listened to growing up and going into high school she said “Madonna was always on in my car as well as George Micheal”. For her when she listened to music it was either in the car, or on the radio in the wall at her house and friends houses. She grew up learning how to play the guitar but never stuck with it after high school so she does not know how to play it as well as she used to. As she got older she went to more concerts like Prince, Tina Turner, Tim McGraw, and Elton John. I asked her “What was the role of music growing up in your life”? Her answer was “Music lets me have fun and enjoy living in the moment. I listened to it all the time like when I was studying, getting ready, hanging with my friends, having a party, or just sitting on the back porch with my parents”. She also said that she got more in touch with music in her late high school years as she said those were some of the hardest years for her with school. It helped her relax no matter what kind of music it was. When I first asked her about doing this interview she automatically said yes and got very excited to talk about her experiences growing up and listening to music from all over the world. Music has been a large part in my mothers life and will continue to be until she can not listen to it anymore.
I relate to your mom with music just being everywhere for me. I love Tim McGraw, I suggest the song, “Just To See You Smile” it’s a great sing along or background song.
ReplyDeleteTina Turner, wow, what an amazing artist. What Love Got to Do with it has always been my favorite when it came to her music.
